Practical Tips For Managing Your Teen’s Screen Time

Posted on December 16, 2021 by The Times USA News

These days, it can seem nearly impossible to escape screens. They are everywhere you look. From the television in your living room to the smartphone in your pocket, screens are a major part of daily life for the vast majority of people.

While screens and devices do make life easier and are extremely helpful, there is such thing as too much of a good thing. It is important to step away from the screens for at least a little while each day for a variety of reasons.

For starters, too much screen time in the evening can really have a heavy impact on your ability to sleep well at night. The blue light emitted by your screens can inhibit the production of melatonin and make it difficult for you to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.

One big challenge that many parents face when their kids enter their teenage years is that of teaching them moderation with screens. Your teens will be using devices for everything from homework to entertainment, and it can often feel as though they are always looking at a screen.

If you are looking for practical ways in which you can limit your teen’s screen time a bit, here are a few things to consider doing.

Use Parental Controls

It might seem like an extreme measure, but parental controls for your teen’s devices can be a big help when it comes to monitoring and limiting screen time. Generally speaking, simply approaching your teen and taking away the device they are using will only result in an argument.

However, when your teen knows that at a certain time every day their device will be locked then you can avoid the stress of the argument and simply help them to fall into a healthier routine.

Furthermore, it is no secret that the internet can provide some trouble and even dangerous situations for teens. There is nothing wrong with taking control in order to help them learn how to use such a powerful resource safely as they get older. You can use a Meet Circle Coupon Code in order to take control of your teen’s screen time in a practical manner.

Educate Your Teen

There are few battles with your teen that can be won by simply laying down the law, so to speak, and expecting lasting results. When it comes to something as integral to modern life as screens, you will want to take a different approach with your teen.

You should look to educate them about how to use screens safely and moderately as they become more used to using them every day. Remind them that there is more to life than what they can see on the screen and that some time away from their devices each day is important.

Bear in mind the fact that screen and device usage is a topic that is all about balance and responsibility. Working with your teen to achieve the healthiest approach to screens will get you the best results at the end of the day.
