TV Ratings Are Rising During the Pandemic

Posted on August 11, 2020August 14, 2020 by David Jackson

During the past few months, the United States has dealt with the rise of a global pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a public health crisis the likes of which has not been seen in more than 100 years. As many families have been forced to shelter in place while businesses have been forced to close, this has led to a shift in TV viewing habits. With the rise of ReplayTV along with other advanced options, such as Android TV Launch Control (click here to learn more about on this website!), TV ratings have been on the rise. This is a nice shift for an industry that was looking at tumbling ratings before the pandemic hit.

While there have been rises in TV ratings across the board, some of the networks have seen a bigger boost than others. For example, the ratings of financial networks have risen significantly. This makes sense as a lot of Americans are worried about how the pandemic is going to impact their bank accounts and retirement accounts. Given that many businesses have been forced to close and the market took a tumble in March and April, many Americans were concerned and wanted to learn more about how the pandemic was impacting the financial world. Many of the world’s biggest companies have been forced into bankruptcy as a result of the pandemic.

In addition, the pandemic has seen a rise in internet streaming. While cable still has a place, there has been a major shift away from cable that has been taking place during the past few years. In many ways, the pandemic has only served to expedite this shift. Some of the world’s biggest internet companies have been forced to increase the bandwidth that they provide to their users to keep up with the demand for streaming services during the pandemic. This has also given rise to another major ratings boon.

Finally, ratings are also up due to the binge-worthy viewing habits of many people. Because so many people have been forced to stay home during the pandemic, there are lots of people who are going through shows at a record pace. In some cases, this might include the DVR, where people record shows as they air on TV and then use the power of the remote to skip commercials. In other cases, this might include streaming an entire show in one night using one of the many streaming platforms. Regardless, this is another reason why TV ratings for shows, such as Hulu’s Love, Victor, have been so exceptional.

These are just a few of the reasons why ratings are up for TV shows during the pandemic. With many families forced to shelter in place, this is a great time to get caught up on some of the biggest TV shows to have hit the airwaves during the past few months. It will be interesting to see where the world goes from here.
