On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviewed Ian Proctor, the president of Ultimate Africa Safaris.
On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviewed Ian Proctor from Ultimate Africa Safaris about how AI is impacting the planning of luxury African safaris.
They discussed what AI does, and doesn’t do well. They talked about inaccurate information that is feeding new AI and how big corporate entities are being suggested by AI.
They discussed how reviews are being written by AI bots and fake photos and videos are everywhere.
They talked about the limits of AI. AI can’t secure special access for clients and how “if the wheels come off” human connections and his advocacy really matters.
Ian shared how dispiriting it is when clients inquire using a completely soulless AI generated email. Planning a safari should be exciting! In Ian’s opinion AI doesn’t do exciting very well.
Ian also shared a humorous antidote about how AI summarized his company and how he loved it!
Ian noted that “Technology is an incredible tool but the future of travel isn’t AI or human expertise. It’s AI enhanced by human expertise. No algorithm can replace intuition, empathy, creativity, and genuine care for the people behind the itinerary.
Ian Proctor has been planning high touch, high end, African safaris for 3 decades. He spends 2-3 months of each year inspecting Africa’s leading safari lodges and camps, seeking out only the best experiences, guides and accommodations for his clients. He has personally stayed at nearly all of Africa’s top safari properties, 410 and counting and has inspected hundreds more. He knows the secret spots where you can have one of a kind, mind blowing, safari experiences. Imagine elephant drinking from your private pool or waking up surrounded by endless herds of wildebeest. We’re talking a front row seat to Africa’s best wildlife – far from crowds.
