Five Step Strategy and Framework for Building an Online Course

Posted on December 12, 2024 by admin

INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.

Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, welcomed Benjamin “BENCASSO” Barnes to provide another commentary in a series.

The Benjamin “BENCASSO” Barnes Commentaries

In this edition of The Coaches Corner, Benjamin Barnes, also known as Bencasso, shares five steps to building an online teaching business that’s as structured as a symphony and as strategic as a game of chess. Whether you’re teaching violin, yoga, or underwater basket weaving, these steps will help you turn chaos into a smooth-operating, income-generating machine.

Welcome to The Coaches Corner! Today, we’re diving into how to create an online teaching business with five progressive steps. Stick around if you want to move from “What am I even doing?” to “Wow, I’m running a teaching empire!”

Step 1: Define Your Niche and Audience

First things first: figure out who you’re teaching and what they need. Saying “I teach music” is like saying “I cook food.” Be specific. Maybe you teach beginner violin for adults who want to impress their dog. Or intermediate salsa dancing for people with two left feet. The key is to narrow it down—if you aim for everyone, you’ll miss everyone.

Step 2: Create a Signature Offer

This is the filet mignon of your teaching business—the irresistible offer that makes people hit “buy” faster than they can say “free trial.” Whether it’s a six-week beginner course or one-on-one coaching sessions, package it in a way that adds value and solves a problem. And please, no “ten-

hour lecture series” unless you want your students to fall asleep faster than my dad at a Beethoven concert.

Step 3: Build Your Platform

Your online presence is your storefront, so make it appealing. Choose platforms that suit your vibe—YouTube for video lessons, Teachable for structured courses, or social media for short, catchy tips. And remember, a good website doesn’t need to look like it was designed by a Picasso wannabe; it just needs to be clear, functional, and welcoming.

Step 4: Market Like a Maestro

You could have the best course in the world, but if no one knows about it, you might as well be playing violin to an empty room. Use social media, email newsletters, and collaborations to get the word out. And don’t just post, “Buy my course!” Share stories, tips, and testimonials. You’re not just selling a product; you’re creating a connection.

Step 5: Iterate and Expand

Once you’ve launched, take a bow but don’t take a nap. Analyze what’s working, what’s not, and what could be better. Expand your offerings—add intermediate classes, group lessons, or live workshops. The best businesses are like jazz solos: always evolving, but with a steady rhythm.

Benjamin Barnes (closing tone):

And there you have it! Five steps to build your online teaching business with structure and strategy. Now go forth and teach like the rock star—or should I say, teacherpreneur—you were born to be.
