How to Choose Your Next Device Upgrade

Posted on February 16, 2021 by The Times USA News

With big features seemingly just around the corner with the likes of 5G, it may be quickly approaching the time to upgrade your device. But with a huge number of options available as a growing number of different companies now offer their own flagship devices, and each being packed with different features, it can be difficult to know what the best choice may be – so what should you consider when picking out your new device, and how can you best decide what to choose?

Price is important – The newest devices are all starting to cross the four-digit price bracket as paying over $1,000 for a smartphone is becoming common, but that doesn’t mean that you need to spend big to get quality. Second-hand devices from a year or two prior can certainly give you all the features that you need, but non-flagship devices for the current year can also offer all of the features you’re looking for and make some savings in the process too. This is a bit of a balancing act, so make sure to check out all of the features and make the decision based on your own needs.

What will you be using your device for? – As noted, you’ll need to identify your needs to understand if the price is worth paying – most devices come equipped with packed features like cameras for use with social media and bigger screens that have been useful for many gaming options here that have become popular despite changes to initiatives such as Gamstop aimed at reducing player numbers – once you’ve identified what you’ll be using your device for then you can look for devices without certain features, and will certainly help cut costs down, especially the big ticket items that are only aimed towards a certain audience.

Think of longevity too – With rising prices, many of us are holding on to our devices for a longer period of time, but months of updates and file storage can take their toll and slow devices down, and internal hardware could fall behind in times too. It’s important to pick something that can last a while longer if you’re not looking to go through the yearly upgrade cycle – new networking like 5G will be around for a long time so if you’re device is capable then that’s one box to tick – make a list of must-haves, do a little research to see if something new is coming, and make an informed decision around existing and new hardware to discover whether or not your device will be long lasting.

It can be no small task to find a suitable replacement, and you’ll be using it everyday so it’s important to get it right – you don’t want to be stuck with something you hate using for a longer period of time simply because you had overlooked some small features.
