Why Digital Accessibility Matters: A Beginning

Posted on May 28, 2024 by admin

INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.

Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, welcomed Jonathan Kaufman to provide another commentary in a series.

The Jonathan Kaufman Commentaries

Last Thursday was Global Accessibility Awareness Day or GAAD. This was a moment that prompted both individuals and organizations to think, discuss, and explore the opportunities of digital accessibility. The Digital Accessibility Software Market size is estimated at 706 million dollars in the current year and is expected to reach over $1 billion by conservative estimates over the next 5 years. This a moment for businesses to ask themselves a question, how can we engage ourselves in this new business opportunity which is still in its nascent stage?

With a global disability market spending power at 13 trillion dollars and an aging population, digital accessibility is no longer about compliance, but rather about staying competitive in a changing marketplace where accessibility becomes an essential tool for growth.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day which takes place the third Thursday of each May should now be a reminder that these are areas that organizations should be working on all year round, asking the question, are we doing enough to stay aggressive with other competitors in our space to attract this growing market?

Accessibility should no longer be an add on, but an essential part of business strategy!

With 1.8 billion people with disabilities on the planet and a buying power of $13 trillion the disability community was too often considered an afterthought. Yet things are changing. With a rise in social media and the growth of entrepreneurs and content creators with disabilities as well as recognition of major brands such as Microsoft, WalMart to Tommy Hilfiger among others there is a new understanding of the value of the Disability Economy and what it means for society at large. Jonathan J. Kaufman, President of J Kaufman Consulting who works at the intersection of business, disability, innovation, leadership and culture will explore this space and highlight these changes and its impact on the business world.
