Colorado’s Altitude: It Makes A Difference To Your Windows

Posted on September 9, 2019September 9, 2019 by admin

Unfortunately, this scenario happens all-too-often in Denver and Colorado:

A young couple moves to the beautiful Rocky Mountain West from a city on the U.S. east coast, and they get a great deal on a suburban Denver house that needs a little updating and improvement.

They quickly realize one of the best investments they’ll be able to make is to replace the windows in the home. The existing windows are old and leaky… not attractive, and not effective in keeping the winter drafts out of their new home.

So they visit the showroom of a national window company – a name they recognize from the city from which they just relocated – and the salesperson offers them “a heck of a deal” on pretty-looking windows manufactured in a plant in Florida.

Installation included!

Unfortunately, our couple learns only too late the problems associated with replacing Colorado windows with those made at sea level.

Colorado Homes Need Colorado-Made Replacement Windows

Before they even arrived at the couple’s new Denver-area home, many of their new windows didn’t look “new” at all.

They were warped… somewhat misshapen in spots… and two of them had even broken in transit.

Our couple first assumed the breakage was due to mishandling by the shipper. But when they talked to a local home-improvement pro they’d hired for a different project, they were surprised to learn that simply moving brand-new windows to a mile-higher altitude will cause these problems.

New windows are usually made of at least two panes of glass, separated by filler gases. Like your plastic water bottle on an airplane, changes in altitude can cause those gases to expand and contract, putting added pressure on the glass and frame.

Warping the windows… sometimes breaking them!

The couple called the store that sold them this “heck of a deal.” But they couldn’t reach the salesperson – and he didn’t return the call.

Amerimax Vinyl Replacement Windows: A MUCH Better Option

Luckily, Colorado homeowners have a vastly-superior alternative to replacement windows made at lower elevations.

Amerimax manufactures top-quality vinyl replacement windows right here in Colorado… and they’re designed and built to withstand the three biggest challenges our beautiful state throws at your windows:

  1. Harsh high-altitude sunlight,
  2. An often-fierce climate, and of course,
  3. Our higher elevation.

Locally-made windows don’t have to sit on a truck or train, and warp as they travel a mile higher from an east-coast manufacturing facility. They were “born” right here, so they’re Colorado-ready.

And there are top-quality installation companies in the Denver area, too, that specialize in installing these great locally-made products in their customers’ homes and businesses.

Combine local products with local installation know-how, and your window replacement project will have a great advantage from the outset.

Don’t fall for “a heck of a deal” on replacement windows made at lower elevations when you’re looking for new beauty and warmth in your Colorado home. Call the local pros – a company that works with Amerimax Colorado-produced vinyl windows – and you’ll see a clear difference in your attractive, effective new windows.
