5 Questions to Ask a Solar Panel Company Before the Installation Process Begins

Posted on January 26, 2021 by David Jackson

Around 46% of American homeowners have given serious thought to adding solar panels to their home.

Solar energy is renewable, adds value to your property, and has low-maintenance costs. Perhaps you’re planning to install solar panels but you want to ensure the company does a good job.

Sound familiar? Luckily, you’ve come to the right place. Here are five questions to ask the solar panel company before they start the process.

1. Do You Have the Necessary Business Licenses and Insurance?

After Googling “solar companies near me” and choosing a reputable business, ask to see proof of their licenses and insurance. The company should show you their license number and whether they’re NABCEP-certified.

Remember, if the company is insured then you’ll be liable if an accident happens on your property.

2. How Long Have You Been in Business?

The company should happily answer your question “how do solar panels work?” and be honest about how long they’ve been in the industry. Ask them how many systems they’ve installed, whether they operate in multiple states, and to see referrals.

Always read customer reviews and see examples of their solar panel installation projects to ensure they’re worth the money.

3. What Type of Solar Energy System Are You Installing?

Reputable solar panels company should easily answer this question as it proves they’re industry experts and value their product. Note that if they don’t have the system on their home or business then it’s a red flag. This could signify that the system may not be powerful enough or they don’t believe in their invention as it’s inferior.

4. How Much Am I Saving With Solar?

Many homeowners consider solar panels for home because you save a fortune in utilities. Ask the company for estimates on your potential energy bill savings and what you’ll be expected to pay once you’ve switched to solar. Further, the company should explain the incentives and rebates you’ll benefit from.

5. What Is the Best Size System for My Home?

A factor that will determine your solar panel cost is the size of your home’s system.

Figuring out the estimate is more complex than looking at your energy bills and choosing a system that matches that. Instead, the solar energy company must consider your home energy usage patterns, your roof’s orientation, and the surplus amount of energy you’ll export to the grid. Note that when you produce extra solar energy then you can store it in a battery as a backup.

That’s What You Ask a Solar Panel Company

Hopefully, after reading this article, you now know what to ask a solar panel company.

Make sure they have the right licenses or insurance, show you their references, and advise you on the best system for your property. The company should be transparent, answer any queries, and help you should a problem arise. Good luck!
