5 Best Practices For Designing A Non-Profit Website

Posted on March 7, 2022 by The Times USA News

Over the past few years, the web has evolved extensively, and every business must have an online presence. Even your non-profit organization must have a website to showcase your cause to the people. Most donors browse a website first to know about a particular organization and its offering. But designing a website can be a lot of work, even more, when you have little or no experience of the latest web design trends.  You need to implement specific designs to convert visitors into supporters and bring in more donations to help your cause. Here are some best practices to create an attractive and user-friendly non-profit organization site.

Highlight your mission

Every non-profit organization has a mission or goal. When visitors land on your site, make the mission-statement crystal clear to them. It is imperative to showcase your cause and where you want the visitors to go next to support you. Whether you are working for children’s education, taking care of aged people, saving stray animals, or anything else, your website must highlight it. Add visuals and testimonials to make your cause more impressive.

Invest in visual storytelling

A picture says a thousand words. You should use images and testimonials to support your cause and draw in supporters. Add visually appealing elements to tell a story and engage visitors. Visuals play a pivotal role in arousing the emotions of users. It encourages them to support and donate on the site. It helps you gather interest and make donors and supporters stick around for the long haul.

Ensure responsiveness

Users prefer to access websites while on the go by using their smartphones. You can expect most visitors to browse your non-profit site on a smartphone at most times. So, do not count on maximum impressions on the website accessed on a desktop. Ensure responsiveness in your nonprofit web design to maximize your reach. The images and text should easily resize according to the device. Also, seamless navigation is the key element of a responsive site.

Make it easy to donate

Fundraising or donation is at the core of a non-profit organization, and it must reflect on the website. Provide prominent “Donate” buttons and Call to Actions on the site to capture visitors’ attention. Try to keep them just one click away to donate, no matter which page they are on the site. It is relevant to add contributions buttons on every page and highlight the same in a bright color. Mention donors where their donation is going and how you will use them.

 Simplify volunteering

If your organization relies on volunteers to support its cause, mention the same on your site. You can showcase the way volunteers may connect with your site and start contributing to your mission. Offer several volunteering projects, timelines, and detailed information to get started. It is imperative to mention your contact number for anyone to call and know about the volunteering process. You can also connect with people on social media handles and ask for any volunteer to work with you.

A well-designed non-profit website is a must to showcase your cause to the world. Implement the mentioned designed elements to design a site that is easy to navigate and user-friendly.
