According to a statement, “As featured in the Netflix original documentary The Great Hack (2019), Professor David Carroll mounted a precedent-setting legal challenge against the notorious voter analytics company Cambridge Analytica to exercise data rights granted under UK law because US voter data was processed by a UK entity under UK jurisdiction. Despite a successful criminal prosecution of the company by the UK data authority for ignoring disclosure orders, Professor Carroll was not satisfied with the outcome, until Channel4 News recently showed up at his door with the data set he’d been fighting for since January 2017. Why did it take an act of journalism to do the regulator’s job?”
