bus and car crash

Things To Do After A Serious Bus Accident

Posted on August 30, 2020November 9, 2020 by David Jackson

Big bus accidents can be a terrifying ordeal. While first responders and emergency workers have seen their fair share of such situations, most of us aren’t readily equipped to deal with how severe these situations can be, nor do we know how we should react if such a situation ever arose.

Public transportation is a service we all use to get from one place to another, so in the interest of safety, here are a few tips should you ever find yourself involved with a serious bus crash and you’re unsure of what steps to take according to Law Office of Matthew L. Sharp.

Alert The Authorities

Though it should be second nature, the suddenness of an accident can cause you to forget simple procedures like calling 911. Don’t let this detail slip your mind, though. In order for you or the other passengers on the bus to get medical attention and to get the scene of the accident contained, you’ll have to alert the authorities as soon as possible.

Medical Attention Is A Must

If you’re obviously injured, then seeking emergency medical attention after an accident is a no-brainer. The thing about accidents, though, is that the surge of adrenaline can take your focus off of pain. It’s a neat survival trick for humans, but in this situation, it might blind you to the fact that you need medical attention if you feel like there’s nothing wrong with you.

That’s why no matter what you might think, it’s important to receive an evaluation following an accident — just to make sure you haven’t sustained any serious injuries that will require further care for medical professionals.

You’ll Need Evidence & Documentation

After any sort of accident, evidence and documentation are necessary for piecing together what happened. In a situation like a bus accident it’s vital that you have as much as you can secure because there’s a decent chance that those liable for the accident will want to avoid their financial responsibility to compensate you and other passengers if they can.

Having evidence in the form of photographs, witness accounts, and any additional info that corroborates the true account of what happened iw what you’ll need to keep all parties involved honest.

Don’t Talk To Bus Company Reps; Speak To An Attorney

Building on the above point, experts like Redondo Beach injury lawyers McLachlan law will generally tell you that you’ll want to avoid talking to the bus company’s driver or representatives following an accident, since their main aim is usually to absolve themselves of any responsibility. You should, however, contact your own attorney, and get their advice on what your next steps should be.
