Community Development Starts with People – Role of International Development and Humanitarian Organizations in the Third World

Posted on June 18, 2020June 19, 2020 by The Times USA News

The world is divided into two sections; the first world and the third world. The first and the third world are the two extremes of a spectrum while the developing countries lie between them. The first world comprises of industrial centers of the world. These include west European countries, North American countries, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. The third world, on the other hand, comprises of developing countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The countries that belong to the first world are well-established and have strong economies, while the countries of the third world are either poor or in the developing phase, with an unstable economy.

For the world to function in a balance, the well-developed countries offer assistance to the poor or developing countries. It can either be through foreign aid from the governments or through non-profit organizations that are established by philanthropists. People believe that it’s the organizations working at the front line such as Bill & Melinda Gates, Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundations that contribute to the well-being of developing countries. However, the world does not recognize the efforts made by small-scale organizations such as International Development & Humanitarian Organization (IDHO). The Washington-based foundation has been established to provide the essentials of basic education and healthcare services to the most vulnerable and susceptible communities in East Africa.

A Philanthropist Laying the Foundations of IDHO

Hussein Abdi Abdullahi was born in Somalia on January 1, 1991. His childhood was not the kind people dream of; instead, he grew up in Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya at Garissa county. Life was difficult until his family, along with other refugees, found resettlement in the United States. He even completed his education while living at the refugee camps.

As he himself belonged to the third world, he was well aware of the living conditions of the people living in the rural and urban parts of East African. He did not forget his past; rather, he used it to improve the lives of people who were still living in some of the world’s most under-developed parts.

His determination to create a better world for his fellow African brothers helped him conceive the idea of the International Development & Humanitarian Organization (IDHO). He tirelessly worked for his non-profit and non-governmental foundation, and finally, on October 22, 2016, he founded the International Development & Humanitarian Organization with the help of Kristine Lynch.

A Better Community for the Ones who Struggle

While people living in developed countries are living a luxurious lifestyle, the people in under-developed and poor parts of the world have to struggle to get access to even the most essential commodities in life. These people do not even have access to clean and drinkable water, let alone proper education and employment opportunities.

The International Development & Humanitarian Organization has been founded to address the basic needs of people who are deprived of the most basic necessities in life in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. The organization, which is based in Washington, works to develop foundations for better education, adequate healthcare services, pure water, and sanitation.

The purpose of establishing this organization is to pave the way for sustainable community development. While most of the non-profit organizations work form community development, the focus of Hussein’s IDHO is sustainability. He is using the platform of his organization to not only improve the lives of the people living in weak communities but to prepare them for sustainable growth, which strengthens the foundation of these third world countries.

The concept over which the organization has been founded is, “development comes from the people themselves.” Hussein and his teamwork to provide the essential social and humanitarian services that contribute to individual human progress. The founder and Executive Director of IDHO, Hussein, is an advocate of holistic community development. His organization works in areas including education, health and hygiene, sanitation, human rights, gender equality, food security, and logistics.

Promoting Welfare of Children and Empowering Young Girls

To initiate holistic community development for sustainable growth, the youth of a country needs to be prepared. It has to be equipped with the skills, potential, and mindset that helps in the development of their country.

Hussein wants to promote the welfare of children and empower young girls by introducing educational opportunities and establishing peace in their hometowns that allow them to focus on their personal growth.
