3 Ways Digital Health Clinics are Changing The Way Healthcare is Delivered

Posted on June 17, 2020 by David Jackson

Digital health clinics are on the rise as COVID-19 has accelerated the coming of tech-enabled health clinics. In the past, getting appropriate healthcare even for the well-insured has been complex and inefficient. With the arrival of COVID-19, people now are demanding better care and rethinking how they receive healthcare. Digital health clinics are seizing the opportunity by utilizing technology to provide a better experience for the patient.

#1 Web & Mobile Applications

Most of these digital health clinics that are taking on big healthcare issues such as primary care and chronic illnesses such as treating depression are thinking tech first. Most of them either have a mobile application or a slick web application that is extremely easy to use and more personable than your typical sterile and underdeveloped insurance-type portals. Usability is critical when speaking to a wide variety of younger patients that have higher expectations of what a digital experience should be.

These digital health clinics are nailing the consumer experience by speaking directly to the consumer through mobile and web applications, including text. This compliments the patient experience by meeting the expectations people now have with their technology. People don’t want to jump through technical hoops to get things done. Digital health clinics meet the consumer where they already are: on their phone, tablet, or laptop.

#2 Access to Care

Getting an appointment to see your doctor during COVID-19 has proven difficult for many patients. In addition, most of the leading advice in healthcare was to not to schedule a visit with a doctor unless you truly needed to see one, even when it came to urgent care visits. This left many without access to the ongoing or urgent care they needed. In response, digital health clinics have provided direct avenues to get healthcare quickly, sometimes within the hour. This is enabling patients to take control of their healthcare versus being at the mercy of a larger, slower healthcare system.

#3 Decreasing Costs

From being transparent to lowering costs, digital health care clinics are providing lower fees for primary care and specialized treatment. In addition, a new wave of transparency is also being provided, giving patients visibility into what a visit truly costs. Digital clinics and telehealth providers also offer alternatives for those seeking healthcare from insurance providers when limits have been reached or when it’s simply more affordable to get healthcare via an online provider.

The digital health wave is also reaching prescriptions as more and more specialized healthcare clinics are focusing on specific treatments for depression, primary care, diabetes and other common illnesses.
