Evacuations of US Civilians Marred with Problems

Posted on April 28, 2023 by admin

The beginning of the overland evacuation of American civilians from Sudan has highlighted the Biden administration’s slow response in protecting its citizens in crisis. The effort, which has been organized two weeks after the conflict erupted, has been marked by a lack of urgency and preparation, reminiscent of the administration’s failures in the Afghanistan evacuation in 2021.

The evacuation effort follows the recent coup in Sudan, which saw the military take over the government, causing widespread violence and instability across the country. In response, several countries have begun evacuating their citizens, with the United States being among the last to do so.

The fact that it took the Biden administration almost two weeks to organize evacuation efforts is unacceptable. The situation in Sudan has been deteriorating rapidly, and the lives of American citizens are at risk. The delay in response has exposed the administration’s inability to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively, and it raises questions about its ability to protect its citizens abroad. In light of this current situation many are wondering if the Afghanistan disaster is just the way the Biden administration handles situations.

This delay in response is reminiscent of the administration’s failures in the evacuation of Afghanistan in 2021. In that situation, the administration was unprepared and lacked a clear plan for evacuating American citizens and allies from the country. This resulted in chaos and violence at Kabul airport, with many individuals left stranded and in danger.  Also, a dozen US troops were killed in that evacuation.

The similarities between the Sudan and Afghanistan evacuations are striking. In both cases, the administration failed to act swiftly and efficiently in protecting American citizens in crisis. In both cases, the administration’s lack of preparation and clear strategy resulted in unnecessary harm and danger to those affected.

Furthermore, the Sudan evacuation effort has been criticized for its lack of transparency and communication with those affected. The State Department has not provided clear information about the evacuation process, leaving many Americans in Sudan feeling confused and anxious. The lack of clear communication only adds to the already stressful situation, and it further highlights the administration’s inability to effectively manage a crisis.

The Biden administration must take responsibility for its slow response in the Sudan evacuation effort. It must learn from the mistakes made in Afghanistan and ensure that American citizens are protected in crisis situations. This includes developing clear plans and strategies for responding to emergencies, improving communication with those affected, and acting quickly and decisively when necessary.

In conclusion, the beginning of the overland evacuation of American civilians from Sudan has highlighted the Biden administration’s slow response in protecting its citizens in crisis. The delay in response, lack of preparation, and poor communication with those affected are reminiscent of the administration’s failures in the Afghanistan evacuation. The administration must take responsibility for its actions and ensure that American citizens are protected in crisis situations.
